Hello everbody I just started working on my new Alaska GP 7L I started with a Bachmann GP7, chopped the nose and prepared the frame by milling it down by 2 mm. A new Atlas cabine is already prepared and fits perfectly. The final result should be something like this: www.alaskarails.org/creations/PD-1803/PD-1803-Model-Builder.jpgWalthers had a GP7, but I don' t like it that much. Too wide in the proportions. Best regards Bas

Hi Bas,
Looks like your off to a good start. Just so you know, the AAR-B sideframes that bachmann makes will fit on the same trucks. I detailed a bachmann gp30 and gp35 as Illinois Central Gulf locos of GM&O ancestry. They were built on trade in Alco trucks, so when I built the models, I ordered trucks and discoverd the wheelbase is the same on bachmann blomberg and AAR-B trucks. Im detailing a Bachmann GP7 as an NC&StL gp, so I had to figure out how to put switcher trucks on it... that was a job, but I did it... Ive got to finish that one up...

That was one of the first things i saw when I bought the Bachmann FA2 a year ago....the trucks fit on the F7... This is as far as I am now....I am going to see if I can find and order the correct paint, but I think I have to make it myself....you can't find Alaska Railroad yellow and blue in Switzerland. Regards Bas Randy Earle: no problem ;-)

Bas,
It's looking great! I'm glad you figured that out with the trucks.. I'll have to post some pics of my pair..
icghogger, I plan to use wisconsin central maroon.. The nc&stl Preservation Society had that on their site as a close match.. I'll have to post pictures of it too..
