Robert, Thanks for this information. It is great to know from a rebuild standpoint of what is correct. The what where and why of things helps us create more realistic models. Again, thanks. Totally agree with that statement Paulie

Paulie, this is your thread, but I just wanted to say thanks again for the inspiration. I am on my way to my local hobby store to pick up a tunnel motor shell and a few parts. I figure this will be a good restart project to get me back into modeling mode again. I'll pick up a chassis and drive for it later. Off to the store! No worries there at all I am thrilled you guys all like this so much and also humbled buy the response. Please keep the discussion going if there is more to be said and keep us all posted on your build it only helps me and all of the rest of the guys here. Glad to hear your headed out to get a unit to build because the tunnel motors are getting hard to find unless you are going for the newer ones. I almost did not do this build for that reason but I got mine from Ebay when they were a bit eiser to get and at a much better price than what I see them going for now. There is an auction on there now for two shells at $30.00 plus shipping. I paid $40 for a pair of these units one powered one not and that included shipping. That is not nearly as easy to do now. Again thanks to each and every one of you for your support it means a lot to me and makes me glad I decided to rejoin the group. Paulie

I found the protoype I am basing mine off of. Southern Pacific #8354. It has been to three leasing companies (BDLX, RBMN & PRSX) and looks like a heap that is ready for a B-unit rebuild.
I saved all the photos I could find of it to use for reference. It is a former snoot. I picked up a snoot shell today and a few detail parts. This is one of th eoriginal blue box models. I'll rebuild it.
I am using the BNSF SD40-2B units as reference for the forward location of the DB hatch. I picked up an Athearn SD40-2 non-DB hatch to put in place on the model. I only need to get teh frame and drive for the model and a few other detail parts.
I'll get started on thsi model tonight. I am going to see if I can have it done by the St. Louis RPM meet.

Hey Brian, Glad to hear you got the stuff you needed for your build. I am looking forward to seeing it come together. 99% of my models are Blue Box. I hope you find the frame and stuff for it because I am looking for a couple of non powered ones myself to go under shells that need them. Anxiously awaiting photos from you and I am headed back to the bench myself. Paulie

Atleast i think i got everything. I've also tossed around the idea of streching a P40 fame to accept 6 axle trucks and making a P44C using the details west steerable truck sideframes.

Instead of hijacking your thread Paulie, I will start a new one for my build.

That is right, models do not get built by themselves. Yes, today I finished the wiring. I need to get some new sunny bright bulbs for my lights, but for now I am back at the bench.

I hope you do have what it takes to build yours because I would be very interested in seeing your version. Also I think the P44C build would be very interesting as well. Keep us posted on the progress of both of these. Paulie

Any more progress on your "B" unit Paulie? Not as of yet she is in the cabinet waiting for the mood to strike to get back to working on it. Been busy at work and also with being out of town a bit. I really need to settle down and get some things done I have too many projects going at once and I am losing the desire to work on the stuff which means I need to put a lot of it away and focus on finishing one thing at a time. I hope to get back to this soon. Thank you for asking that may kick start the interest and get me off my butt to get going on those hand rails. Paulie
