I am proud to announce the latest product from Cutting Edge Scale Models, the Southern Pacific M-K Tractive Effort Booster Unit! The Southern Pacific's 14 tractive effort booster units are very unique units. They were built by the SP shops from retired U25B's based on an original unit built by Morrison-Knudsen. They were controlled by a set of specially equipped GP40 units. The TEBUs acted as fuel tenders and slugs. The shell will be cast in resin, but rather than basing the master off of low-precision scratchbuilt styrene, the master will be made of 3D printed plastic that has been sanded and filled to attain a very high quality surface finish. The kits will include a fret of etched brass details that includes the fan, walkway, pilot, air intake grille, sill, and steps. The model will fit over a U25B chassis just like the prototype, and the models will be powered. The SP light array will be faithfully modelled with fiber optics, and the LEDs and motor will be controlled with a DCC decoder. I would like to get at least 14 pre orders before I start production in order to offset setup costs. If you pre order, I will not bill you until it ships, and you can cancel at any time. I plan to ship in mid June. If you would like to pre order you can visit my website here: cuttingedgescalemodels.weebly.com/espee-tebu.html

Has any thought been given to offering this model in HO scale? It seems like a pretty cool model and I'd probably be interested in one or a few, if offered.

The only link I got to work was the one of the Prototype which leads me to a question. If these units did not have prime movers in them but were considered to have tracktive effort does that mean they get power to there traction motors from the mother units? I would be interested in how these really work.
I may too be interested in an HO scale one if it could be made a dummy since my models are just static displays.

Paulie Yes, but the mother units had to be specifically equipped/modified for this. (Some) more information can be found here: espee.railfan.net/sptebu.htmlDon't let the name fool you, "TEBU" is just a slug by another name.

I have filled up all of the space, however there may be a slot or two left based on what people decide to actually go through with. Thank you to all who have ordered so far. There is now a waiting list, and people who don't get in this run can get in the next.

Also, I will start taking pre-orders for the HO version soon. If anyone has a Bowser U25B that they could lend to me I would be most appreciative as I need to test some dimensions and get the shell going.
