Hi Guys,
This group of photos shows a recent Brass O scale project I completed. These units started out as Overland FA1's painted for the L&NE. The customer wanted these units converted and painted to match the group of FA1's & FB1's the Rock Island sent to EMD to be re powered with new EMD prime movers and re trucked with Blomburg trucks. This involved removing all the dynamic Brake grills and grids, air horns, flat number boards, and exhaust stacks. The drive trains were repowered and trucked with P&D drives to match the prototype. After all the parts were removed they made a trip to the sand blasting cabinet to be taken back down to bare metal. Brass filler plates were then soldered in place to cover all openings were parts were removed. The the remaining area was then filled in with fiberglass and shaped to match the contour of the roof. Then the new detail parts were added to match the prototype which include. A new air horn, EMD exhaust stacks, 45 degree number boards, grab irons, maintenance walkway and cab shades.
The units were then painted in the Rock Island solid Engine Maroon scheme, with silver under frames. Then hand lettered from alphabet sets and the stripes were custom bent from Microscale white stripes and Micro SOL. New window glass and constant lighting was installed and the units were ready to earn there keep.
