Hello Everybody~
Last night I had just completed painting the second color on my project locomotive. While I was taking off the masking tape I got carried away and took off the painstakingly applied window masks on cab. At first I thought nothing of it but then realized, I have to spay the locomotive with gloss for the decals and then seal it with clear flat. My question is: Can you just spray over the clear window glazing without any adverse affects, or does it etch the clear styrene like CA does when it is applied to close. I am using Modelflex 603 as the gloss and 601 as the flat.
Thank You in Advance.

I forgot to mask the windows on an Avro Lancaster and they went cloudy on me when I clear coated it. Not a big deal, it looks better in my opinion but not a look I would go for on a locomotive.

Thanks, Taylor I guess I'll have to wait to put the windshield wipers on, and re-mask the windows. Do you happen to know if gloss and flat will react to scotch tape? I would rather try that on the windows as there's paint around the windows now and the scotch seems to have less adhesive than masking tape, minimalizing the chance of pulling any paint off.
Thanks again, PVRR2647

I heard of other modelers who mask their models exclusively with scotch tape. I've never tried personally. Also, I've accidentally sprayed windows with dull coat, which leaves a residue like Taylor mentioned. If you don't like the look of the residue, it will come off easy with isopropyl alcohol. Don't use stronger solvents, like acetone. Don't ask me how I know that ;-)

IprOH might react with certain clear coats, ie dullcote or tamiya flat clear, causing the model to take on a white finish which will disappear when you spray over it with more clear coat so go easy with the IprOH!

I used too have a full shelf of different tapes, and then some real low tack painters tape bit my paint job even though I had removed the initial tack by laying it down on denim. Now I use just Tamiya masking tape and much happier with the outcome and lack of bleeding. Just bugs me a bit when I have to pay for it.
I have repo listed windows that got fogged with 2500 grit sandpaper then 3m polishing compound.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but I use Frogtape where I can or else I use the tamiya yellow stuff for tight places. I find Microscale's liquid mask (the blue stuff) works really well on uneven surfaces.

Taylor & Craig, Thank You for all of your help. I will look into the Tamiya and Frogtape for the next couple of CF7s that I got on the bench. I can't believe how much the hobby has changed in the last 5 years since I started my layout. This project has turned into a little bit of a challenge. I can't tell you how great this forum has been helping me with all of the unexpected bumps in the road that I have hit. I really appreciate the help and suggestions.

Damns peel chucker, "repo listed" was supposed to be "repolished"
