I have shown this model before but I wanted to show it again due to upgrades and changes I have made to it recently. As you know, this is 6091, a rebuilt CN SD40 painted in Helm's blue n maroon lease scheme. The changes I made to this model are the new double air tanks above the fuel tank, and some other detail upgrades. The entire highhood was repainted and new decals were added. This unit is the pride of my collection because of all the work I did to it to ''Canadianize'' a regular old Athearn BB SD40-2. This is sadly, my only GMD SD40 at the moment but I have plans to build an Alstom SD40-3 plus a few CP Rail SD40's in the future. freight.railfan.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=hlcx6091_2&o=hlmx

Neat unit, it was one of the 3 (supposed to be 4, 6058 never delivered) leased to the Goderich Exeter Railway around 2008. 6061, 6091 and 6522 (last was an SD45 core). From what I heard from crews, 6091 kept its insulated Canadian cab, 6061 was basicallly a "wind tunnel", and 6522 was ok. They all went off lease when GEXR got FEC 709 and two GSCX/GATX SD40-2's (7362 & 7369) as replacements in late 2010 or so. Last I heard those 3 HLCX units were sent to East St. Louis for storage or possibly cut up at Metro-East Industries.

Yes diesel, That was something I started building years ago out of styrene and some detail parts but Brian recently made an excellent segment on modeling the WR tanks in his most recent, QNS&L SD40 builds. I think Athearn is offering that to on their Genesis units plus as a separate purchasable detail part! Thanks MrDan! I was afraid of that news but it was only a matter of time before their call to duty in the afterlife of a lease unit would end. So far, MEI has cut up all of my other favorite HLCX units, (including #6000 & 6225.) I hope someone gets a photo of the trio before they meet the cutting torch. ~ Daniel

Nice work, I'm doing a similar GP38 build, what paints did you use?
