Nice. I remember seen those oddball in Montréal and 5485 have been never repainted. I love the fans.

Looking really good. I know the feeling of having projects sit for a long time, feels good to finish one though doesnt it.
What time period do these fit in? What else did they run with?

These were acquired by CP around 1993 and ran with the rest of their fleet. During the 90's CP had quite the mongrel group of SDs from exQNSL, exUP, exKCS, exNS etc. Some they went so far as to add CPesque details like nose headlights and bell btwn the #boards (5420, 5421) but most were straight repaints into CP Rail System dual flags.
Eric's right, 5484 and 5485 seemed like they were acquired in an afterthought and never got painted red, and someday if I can find a cheap Athearn or Broadway hinose NS, I might do 5484. Most of the hinoses were gone by 2007. One of them actually got rebuilt for FURX.

It's an Athearn blue box with many Cannon (and other) parts. I'm forward to seeing your finished engine. You've got a good start.

Nice build! It seems like we used to get the oddball units in the east and D&H. I have had one of the ex SOU units several times. Some of the ex MP and KCS units had the cabs updated with sound proofed ceilings and nice seats, just like the 5500-5700 CP originals.
I looked at GNSteve's link. The only small error was the F should be on the long end. These were in southern convention of long hood forward. Nice job still, as I suck at painting and decaling.

Spike, thanks for checking my work. Southern did label the long hood as front and I have a slide of CP 5476 with the F at the long hood end. I also have slides of both sides of CP 5482 and the F is on the short hood end. This seems like one of those "there's a prototype for everything" moments and when possible, model from photos.

Says "SD40-2", then "DRF-30" for the class. I could be wrong on the class, as I'm a CN guy, so you'd best get a second opinion on the number (The DRF is right though)

You are correct, Taylor. CP 5475 to 5485 where class DRF-30, as well as the rest of the secondhand SDs. The factory bought SDs all had letters after the class, etc (ex DRF-30g was for the 5565-5588 group of SDs) after the class for the different batches and specs. But the DRF-30 class was also shared with MLW C630M and M630 (c and d sub group, respectively) groups as well, so the letters aren't in sequence.

I have been watching this build and I like it, I have one but I am going to do it up for my Proto-freelance road.
This is interesting you are going about the dual motor install. I have never seen this before in HO. What motors are you using?
I like the reuse of the old speaker also. Good idea but how does it sound compared to the Bass speakers available now?
Anyway keep it coming in am liking this build.

I have no idea what the motors are, I had 3 of them in my parts bin from something I took apart, I'll see if I can get any numbers of it and search online. I had one running for two days on 12VDC with no issues. The lap top speaker has really good bass so I decided to use it, I'll post a video of it once its done you guys can let me know if it sound ok.
ok i just looked it up and it looks like the motors came out of DVD drives.

Looks great. How did you blank out the windows, just paint over the "glass" or are they actual styrene patches?
