Hi everyone! Stumbled across this site and joined instantly. Just a little bit about me, I started my own custom painting and building biz in 1983 and did the show circuit until I burned out in 1998. I moved to another home and took some badly needed time away from the painting biz (5 years). But, that burning desire was always there. I finally built a new shop in my basement, re-visited some old projects and started some new ones. I'm not sure about doing the shows or doing stuff for others at this time, I just wanted to get back to doing things that make me happy! Just build! This site is a needed welcome to a part of the hobby that is slowly disappearing, custom building. Budgeting our time between work and family to get our projects done is sometimes difficult, but we tend to persevere. But that's who we are "modelers". Whether your doing your own projects or buying custom models from someone else, we're keeping this portion of the hobby alive. This is a hobby you can never stop learning from, I'm looking forward to sharing my own experiences and learning new ones. Thanks!

Welcome to the Detailer. I was a custom painter myself for over 20 years and had the same burn out you did. It took me 12 years to get interested again. I was suprised when I returned at the progress made in the detail of RTR locomotives, but at the same time I was shocked at the cost, considering the shift from domestic production to imported units made with cheap labor.
