Air tanks, fuel tank and truck details for RS-11s

Hey folks,

I'm looking to pick brains on my next project.

I'm gearing up to start working on two chop nosed RS-11s. They will both look very similar to LSRC 1195.

Here is a photo of it:

The first thing I would like to do is modify the fuel tanks. I would like to make them the correct size. Does anyone have dimensions that I could go on? Does anyone make bolt castings for the? Archer maybe?

In doing this, I will need to also make new air tanks. What would be the best way to go about that?

Also, I'm wondering if anyone makes the exposed roller bearing caps on the trucks? If they do, is it possible to attach them to the end of the axles?

What would be the best way to model the handbrake chain and rigging on the front truck?

I know its a lot of work, but like Erik told me last night, nothing worth having comes easy.
It will be worth it in the end.

I used ho chain to make the handbrake chains and glued it to the trucks. I will send you the dimensions of the fuel tank. If you don't hear from me by Monday send me a PM as I likely forgot.

These measurements are for a standard MLW RS-18 fuel tank:

Fuel Tank:
L 5.1cm
W 1.9cm
H 0.8cm

Air Resivoirs:
L 3.4cm
W 0.5cm
H 0.5cm

you can get the handbrake rigging from Custom Finishing models, #147

And I believe that MBE makes an exposed roller bearing, but I cant find one here in the drawers to confirm that

I used one set on a C424, and they fit in fine, lol, have about 12sets along with the early rs coolers #152 that you see on rs1-2 and 3s just below the cab.. one day they will be works in progress..

Hi Alex. Here some infomation may helpful for you.
The dimension Taylor give you are wrong.the dimension above are for the 800 gallons tanks and the one showed on the picture is an 1000 gallons tanks.

This one is an 800g tank.

and this one is 1000g tank.


More photos or the 1000 gallons fuel tanks and a custom frame I done.

As for the exposed roller bearing, Atlas make them....


Parts #800311 for the sideframe and 800313 for the brake cylinders

Taylor reminded me about your work when I asked him about the RS18 fuel tanks he has.

I should have remembered about Atlas making those side frames as I already have two pairs of them I ordered for a C425 project. Thank you for the reminder.

The dimensions will still work for me as I have a RS2 and a RS3 that will need a 800 gallon tank.

m636, I really like the look of your scratchbuilt chassis. Is there a tutorial available anywhere on how you go about them or would you be able to explain how you go about it? It would be perfect for a couple of projects I have coming up. Thanks!

Will your fuel tanks fit the Atlas chassis? What about the air tanks, I need some of them as well. I am looking to upgrade several Atlas RS3's and RS11's and two C425's for a better look and Atlas's half air tank design.
