Here is my first, and at this stage, only American loco. On UK eBay I got this for £37 ($58 according to Google) which I thought was a bit of a bargain - and it's chipped. I don't know know much about the model and if it's any good - someone might be able to tell me and if there is any easy tweaks to make her that bit more prototypical? But looking at pictures it looks pretty sweet to me. She's not had a great deal done to her, I just roughed up the front pipes, added a whitemetal air pipe I had kicking about after I saw something similar in photos no idea how correct it is!! And I painted some bits yellow that I thought I saw yellow on a picture of a Pensy GP7. I use Tamiya acrylics for weathering and this had a wash and worked back with cotton buds and thinners. The photos are a bit over exposed and cruel, sorry. Oly

Just rough enough to look realistic, but not overdone. Looks good.

Thank you guys!! A friend is on her way on holiday to the US west coast on a fly/drive so I've instructed her to find a train shop and find me a PRR ALCO RS-1 for my next project! I really like the character of the Geeps, proper beast, but there is something about the early ALCOs that really are lovely. I've done some boxcars to go with the Geep. Just got to design this layout!! Oly

Hi Oly,
Very nice work. You have done a great job on recreating the protype look.

Thanks Guys! It means a lot, especially as my resources on PRR Geeps is limited to what I find through google!
Is the Proto 2000 model quite definitive then? Or is there scope for add ons/improvements to really make the most it?
Thanks again,
Oly

Thanks Vince! Yeah i'm a bit unsure about the radio systems. So the train phone is pretty much anytime between mid 40s and the early 60s? Not heard of the sinclair system? Did every PRR Geep get these systems? I was thinking of doing the 50s so I'd be slap bang in the train phone era I guess. Those websites are ace, this sort of thing was exactly what I wanted! Although it's thrown up a bit of a question, there is one photo of 8512 in the late 50s, rr-fallenflags.org/prr/prr8512s.jpgwhich is the same number as my proto 2000 one, but she doesn't have the dynamic brake body bubbles?!! okay Oly what that picture shows is a phase 2 gp9 without the dynamic brakes ( the bulges or bubbles) you talk about also that unit has a sinclair ant' it's on the short hood facing the long which is front on most prr early gp series units here are the following detail associates sinclair ant' #'s 1803 plastic pkg4 101805 brass details west sinclair ant' # 274 pkg2 so hope this helps and sorry to say early proto missed sometimes looks like you'll need to find a unit that has dynamic brakes & re# the model to a prototype as for the prr trainphone ant' i'm sure someone here can provide a source for the posts that support it ok, so it's a mistake by Walthers, whereas this 1959 photo of a dynamic brake fitted GP7 and trainphone is more what mine should be. rr-fallenflags.org/prr/prr8557s.jpg This is the sort of stuff I wanted to get right, thank you, much appreciated info and help - exactly why I joined! Some help/ideas on scratching up some antenna would be brilliant! Oly

Good evening people! Thank you very much for the replies, those websites (apart from throwing up a few issues!!) have been exactly what I'm looking for. Since the information has come up I've moved the horn (still wrong pattern though) and added the MU stands to the ends. I've also made a start scratching up some antenna and the receiver. It looks OK from a distance, but it'll need fettling and sorting, and the ends doing. Wish I could order some Cal-Scale bits but the postage is insane! Anyway here she is as of this evening, excuse the wife's wooden ducks. I've just noticed the wonky sun visor which is annoying, they are very fragile once fitted. Oly

When she is asleep I've been going through those keystone modeller PDFs, really great link,
Thanks again guys.
Just gotta get some more wire to finish off the antenna and some more sleep

Hi Oly, looking thru my PRR books the best I can tell is that is a PRR modification. I can find no photo proof that they came from the factory like that. But with the PRR no can never tell. It was called the Standard Railroad but. In all my research and modeling there is nothing standard about them. Except for the fact that they run on rails. If you need more help just ask or send me a message Erik

Thanks Guys, I didn't fancy trying to carve that cowling off... so after some searching I may have finally found a PRR GP-7 with the mods/addons that mine just about matches! www.railpictures.net/images/d1/8/1/2/4812.1363916314.jpgSomeone is going to tell me it's a GP-9 now aren't they? Need that ALCO behind it now! Thanks for the help guys, I like getting it (sort of) right! Oly

Hi Vince & Only,
Looking at all of my PRR diesel rosters. This engine 8556 is listed as a GP7 built in 1953.
