Over the weekend, I decided to not put my current build up on YouTube and instead produce a DVD set. Although, this set is going to require a number of DVD's. Currently I have 110 video clips. All these clips ONLY complete the frame and fuel tank detailing. I have finished putting together one 2 hour DVD and it took up 39 of the 110 clips. The tunnel motor build was something like 70 videos and just over I think 17 hours of video. This current build I think is going to be something like 30+ hours of video. I have no idea right now how many hours it will really be. But what I am worried about is what do I ask for a set like this? possibly a 20 DVD set! It will be in depth though . Brian

I think it is a great idea. I just think the cost of a set like that would be more then what most people can or are willing to pay. At a 20 DVD set I would think it would be expensive.

Well your average train video is a little more than a hour and they run for $20 plus each. So that could run pretty expensive. Got to think on this for a bit.

Brain, will I be able to rent them at Blockbuster?? If you can actually find one ;-) Seriously though, I like the idea. The biggest thing will be cost. It will be difficult to balance the line between affordable to people and worth your time. It will be even harder these days with things like YouTube where you can get similar stuff for free. It will be a tough balance to strike and I wish you luck.

Why not keep putting them on youtube where its free? Most likely that is what I will do. I do think the cost of a DVD set will be prohibitive to most if not all modelers. Just the DVD's alone will cost more than the $20 to $25 that most DVD productions cost. The problem I have with youtube is I have to cut them in 15 minute clips and that takes FOREVER to do on my slow computer at home. Each 15 minute production takes about 1/2 hour to write out and then about 2 hours to down load on Youtube. I'll think on it though. In the mean time, I will keep making the video clips and storing them on my computer. I am up to about 150 clips now.

Once you get to i think 100 or 150 videos' you can upload videos that are longer then 15 minute's.

There are quite a few long videos posted to youtube, some of them 40-50 minutes. One I follow is called sniper 101 and he has in excess of fifty or more videos on the 'tube.

The point I am trying to get at is the upload time to YouTube. Currently for a 15 minute video it is over two hours for me. Longer and it could be a whole day.

that seems like an awfully long time for just 15 minutes. Could it be the quality your uploading? the file type? i mean i've uploaded 20 minute vids and taken maybe 40 minutes tops and thats using my laptop and wireless connection.

Actually, I am finding the price of a 20 DVD set would not be to bad. I can get bulk packs of DVD-R 16X for very cheap. So I am thinking maybe $30 to $35 plus shipping for the whole set if it is actually 20 DVD's. I may be able to get away with less and therefore the set would cost less. I have no idea yet how many hours it will be in total. This time I am also going to try and include all the weathering.
Again, my last video ran for just over 17 hours. A 20 DVD set would mean I would more than double that and I really do not think I will double 17 hours. So that last session would be on 9 DVD's. I think maybe closer to 15 or less DVD's for this one. But even if it was 20, I think $30 to $35 is reasonable.
Do you all think that would be to much?

Brian, have you tried playing around with the settings of the video when you save it? I mean keeping a good video quality but lower sized file? Im just trying to see if there is a way to keep some vids on youtube aswell. Hell maybe send me the vids and i'll upload them for you?

I think 35.00 for the set is not a bad price. I need some new videos to watch I am reviewing the ones you have online now for the fourth time.

This one is getting long. I hope by the end of next week to have the trucks finished so I can finally start on the shell detailing. The pilots are going to be a lot of work and it is one section I procrastinate a lot on.
After I finish the trucks though, I need to take a break and put all the videos together. I am getting to many and falling behind on the video production. If I can get all these put on a few DVD's, then I can keep up with the onslaught of videos I take per building session.
