I haven't seen those Q fans on sale for years.
Started one of these myself in my cabin onboard ship. Its coming along, haven't taken any photos as Internet is sparse so I'll update you all when I get home. This thread finally convinced me that I had to have a 38-3!

You can use the 52" fans but even though they are only 4" bigger, they are going to look big. I have found the 48" fans in several on-line sites. I will post a link in the next few days so you can get them.

Coming along nicely. I've almost finished mine now. It's not detailed to the same level but I'll post some photos anyway.

This took on a life of its own because I really did not plan on doing nearly as much as I did but one thing led to another and here we are. I am really happy with how this is turning out. I need to get the stuff together to make twin for this one.

That turned out super nice Jason.. Wouldnt be the mirrors on the side would it?
Your skills are awesome especially kit-bashing. You make the projects look easy. Thanks for shariing this build.
I do have one question for you though, you highly detailed everything from the pilots to the roof but you stopped with under the walkway and frame details, reason why by chance? Just wondering. It still looks great just like it is.

That is a fine looking unit. What type of lighting are you going to use?

KP, underframe detailing is the stump I just can never seem to get over. I really wish I had a cool answer for why I don't detail frame / tank but I don't. I guess it might be the "Is anyone really gonna see it?" approach. I also guess it may also be the "how much time do I spend on one project when I have soooo much else to work on?". You may see me heading in that direction though.
Railnet, it will be LEDs once I figure that whole thing out. Im horrible with electronics!

Not wishing to highjack this thread but I thought I would show a few progress shots of my GP38-3. It won't be quite as good as the one featured here but I enjoyed it and am even encouraged to do another! Still working on the handrails, modified the ends today, gotta get rid of the bit behind the conductors side of the cab.

Great looking 38 man. I need to build others as well. I like that you captured the double stanchions at the center of the anti-climber.

It's one of those features that just stands out to me on a oot of NS locos so I thought I'd do it. I'll get it finished off sometime soon though the weather here has turned so painting is a bit of a hard thing to do right now.
