That is terrible! I thought these things only happened to me.
As we say in the vintage car world, "The joys of vintage motoring!"
Hope things go well.

When something like that happens to me I call it fate, and I have a large box full of fate.

I use empty paper towel tubes to hold shells while painting and have had some close calls with them almost falling off the tube before. I need to find a better way of holding my shells while painting before that happens to me.
Good luck with the rebuild. John.

Thanks guys.
Well last night I stuck what parts I could find on the table, came back this afternoon and found the rest. For the most part it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I was able to piece most of it back together and replaced a few parts. The cab doesn't fit quite as well as before, but liveable considering. I will post pics of it soon. I thought about taking some of it in it broken state, but didn't.

Jim, you should have. Its one of those things that you get PO'ed about at the time, but makes a great story a few years down the road. I thought of that too, but just wanted to get it fixed. It was pretty sickining to see it that way. I was pretty proud of the way it looked after learning a few things here

Stan, That sounds like a good idea, I'll have to give it a try.
Thanks, John.

I feel for you, Jim. Because of the "droppsies", I have been thinking about doing my bench work at floor level. More room and besides, my best drinking memories happened down there. The problem is the same however, getting up afterwards.

Sarge, I had something similar happen to me last year with my original pair of NS SD9Ms. My paint booth is out in the shed in the back yard. I had finished painting the shells and left them out there to dry. A couple days later I went out to the shed to get a couple crates of camping supplies and decided to grab the shells while I was out there. I put them on top of the crates and went traipsing across the back yard. I caught the toe of my sandals on the top step of the deck and the crates went tumbling. The SD9s hit the floor first with the crates right on top. Completely crushed them. I just had to buy a couple new shells and start over.

Actually this could be the start of a great thread - workholding devices... I use a 1-1/2 - 2" wide piece of sheet metal about 12" long, bend it in half (obviously it can't be too heavy) and place a couple pieces of self adhesive foam on the outside of the open ends to grip the inside of the shell. What's nice about this method is that after spraying, the shell, simply stand the sheet metal (and shell) up between something as simple as a couple of bricks. I usually place a plastic bag over my hand before spraying. By the way, glad to hear your unit survived...
