Here is a look at my current roster of leased equipment used by the Union Pacific for travel across the system, Unlike my other leased units that are based on certain subdivisions. Starting off with EMDX SD40M-2 #6881, This is an Athearn RTR SD40-2 (Modified To Taste) Unit #2 is HLCX Redbird SD40R #6337 exSP, This unit required a little more work! It started off as an Athearn RTR Sante Fe SD40 and with some reworkings became an SP unit and then an HLCX unit. Unit 3 is another HLCX SD, HLCX SD40-2 #6225. Basically this is just an out of the box Athearn RTR unit that received weathering & detailing. Unit #4 is GSCX SD40-2 #7349, Another RTR Model that I got for only $20! It is a former GATX Leasing SD40-2... Next is NREX SD40-2T #4945, A Rebuilt SD45T-2 from UP. As you can see it has seen better days, Most of the grey has been eaten away by the elements and the armor yellow is faded. all visible UP markings have been patched up with a simple coat of black that at this point is also starting to be eaten away reshowing the Union Pacific lettering underneath! I used a full spectrum of weathering techniques for this unit to achieve the extent of fading and the overal battered look. Last but not least is another SP SD40R, This time one in full SP Speedlettering! The unit seen here is exSP, GECX SD40R #8643. I got this model on ebay for around $40. Out of the box it needed some work, For example the SP Light package, (Now a large vacant box with just a headlight set) on the Highnose end and new truck frames. Assuming how the SP lettering on the nose was placed so high, I figured that this unit might have gotten a nose job where the light cluster was removed and filled in completely leaving only the headlight between the numberboards. Their is a small GECX patch over the cab #'s but the full SP paint is still clean and in very good shape. The unit is seen below sitting isolated surrounded by grain hoppers in Westbrook Yard awaiting transit...
