Up til now my sole sound-equipped diesel has been an Atlas Gold GP40-2W with QSI installed. I was content with the quality until I started playing with a Tsunami I'm in process of installing on an Athearn SD40-2. This highlighted the almost total lack of turbo whine on the QSI. (although I do like the horn and bell)
I've consulted the (brief) manual included in the Atlas, and also looked at the extensive online QSI manual (Quantum DCC Reference Manual v.3.0 dated 16 February 2005 pages 94 and 95) . It appears that you may be able to turn up the turbo sound volume using CV 49 and 51. I can fix it with the magnetic wand *if* I mess up, but was wondering whether anyone had tried and if it's worth the effort.
I have a LOK sound 645 turbo waiting for me at the LHS planned for another Atlas silver GP40. If it sounds as nice as it should, I may get a second for the GP40-2W and move the QSI to a SD39 (currently my only 645 non-turbo)
Your input is greatly appreciated.

Power for my RR is four axel S1, RS1, GP7 thru Gp40-2 (WP).Ge's U23 U30 b's. (WP). QSI in the 40's and I have to say the sound&operations are great so much so that I was going to upgrde the chip but the comparsions between the two was minimuall. I've used the wand for a reset, but tend to use the cv's. Please keep us updated using the wand. A freind wanted sound in his GP40 (WP) so I used the LokSound 645 turbo and he favors it over QSI or Tsunami,,I think the reason being is the turbo whine ,it is impressive, horn so-so. To me the service from Matt @ LokSound-ESU is second to none. Please keep us updated. Good luck with your installs. Any observations on the GE sound, I like the Tsunami for the GE fdl but may just give ESU a go. Happy modeling.

Right now, I'd stick with the Tsunami for GE sounds. The GE file being used by Loksound is just a reformatted version of the original 3.5 file and lacks transitions. New recordings for the GE's have been made and should be available this summer or late spring. If you can wait, the new Loksound GE files will be worth it.

ESU is actually recording a GEVO next week (providing the weather co-operates). So look for that one as a future release as well.

I know Matt and I were out recording a GP40, GP35 and GP9 the other day down in GA. I tried to get him on NS property with permission from my RFE but it didn't go through the ranks quick enough, otherwise he would've gotten the GEVO sound then (and much more)

I was just talking to Matt, he said the GP9 turned out really well ! He's currently out in Nevada recording an RS3, then he's off to get a P42. He was pretty disappointed he didn't get the GEVO and a Genset - those are two that have evaded him for a while now !

HI jbconn,
I just installed a Lok Sound select in a Atlas GP38 with the EMD645E prime mover and a Nathan P5a air horn and a Rail Master speaker.
I just uploaded a HD Video to You Tube yesterday showing a 7min. Demo of the engine and decoder.
Here is the link to check it our if you like to check it out.

JBconn : Are you going to use the round speakers from Tony's in your silver GP40? I used them in the GP40 and it sounded great.

Thanks,
This was my first time using a Lok Sound Select and I am very impressed with it. I think it sounds better than the Tsunami. That is just my personal opinion.

Eric, you sure you got the right decoder for a GP-38? Sure sounds like a turbo on there to me............ Hi John, I will have to check, it was to be loaded with the EMD645E 12 cyl. non turbo. I will have to look into it now. I sure hope it's the right one. Other wise I will have to break down and buy a ESU progrmmer. Erik

The GP-38 should have a non-turbo 16 cyl. Sounds like what you got is the 12 cyl turbo for an SD-39 or GP-39. A 12 cyl 645 would be in a GP-15, MP-15, or SW-1500.
