Started work on buiilding a New Haven U25B to go with an ALCO C-425 that is contemplated. This is the rear end of the locomotive with the cast on lift rings shaved and sanded off, then replaced with Utah Pacific GE lift rings. Also added one grab at the top rear of the unit. I installed the side grills but will be painting the top grill work seperately as I want to brush paint the radiators and piping so they can be seen through the grill work. The front of the unit with lift rings and grab installed, still need to install the cut lever and drill holes for the MU cables. The Two Strap Signal box will be installed on the walkway in front of the Engineer which precluded adding a grab in that location. On the New Haven units it looks like they did not add the grab on the fireman's side from the pictures I have seen. Thats all for now!

That is pretty cool. I did not know that the model had the radiator core detail and the water pipes between them. I had the pleasure of climbing all over one out at the Illinois Railway museum. Took a bunch of detail photos of the radiator from above. Alwasy thought it would be cool to have the grills etched because the top grill is a different size than the side grills. Much more open on top. I guess Bowser improved on the Stewart model.
I wondoer how difficult it would be to splice a later phase nose into the current nose and use an Atlas U23B cab or a Hi Tech cab with split windows.

Brian,
This is an old Steward U25B that I picked up off of Evil-Bay, they have always had that detail under the rear screens.
This is a Phase IV unit and has the split windshield, and you can't see from the angle I took the photographs but it has the sloped nose of the Phase IV unit and a ratchet brake instead of the wheel.

Further Progress on the NH U25B Unit. Side view of the front of the unit showing the slanted nose of a Phase IV U25, also the installed signal box, Sinclair antenna and grab irons. Also shows the rear screening that goes over the radiator section of the roof. Front view showing the split windshield of the Phase IV U25 and the installed cut lever. Painted the frame stripe with Floquil's Socony Red paint, next is masking and the black paint. Thanks for looking! Rick J

I dig it, those Utah Pacific lift rings really add detail to otherwise smooth carbody.

Managed to get the masking done on the frame stripe and painted the locomotive in its basic black scheme. Will gloss coat the stripe and start applying decals soon. Rick J

Match it up with some C425s and single middle window U25Bs and you will have a good consist for a heavy Maybrook job.
