Been working on this guy for a couple of weeks now. The body parts were ordered from Atlas, with the pilot custom made. It's missing the front and rear number board/light lenses - I have yet to find them. It's a bit too clean, will be in the weathering shop tomorrow. I'll post pics after weathering... I wanted to paint this in the latter "dipped" theme, as these aren't available to my knowledge. I sure do love Alcos! D&H RS36 by BillBPA1, on Flickr D&H RS36 #2 by BillBPA1, on Flickr

Very nice. Is that subtle weathering I see on the trucks?

I paint in a bit of rust around the journal carriers and the springs - just a bit. it becomes more subtle after the weathering, as the dirt spray tends to blend it in a bit. I also like to add some color to the brake rods, as the cylinders are shiny steel, since it's a hydraulic ram. Anything but a pure black plastic side truck.

Went for the dingy Alco with leaking oil look... Untitled by BillBPA1, on Flickr EMDX - I went to visit the Lehigh Gorge RR this summer and while we were waiting to board, I took a very close look at the SD50 pulling the short consist. I documented the underframe carefully. It was then I noticed the huge brake cylinders that remind me of the hydraulic rams on a backhoe - my own observation. I have the pictures which I can repost on Flickr if it would help you...

Click the photo above and it will take you to the photo stream. I've added 10 picks showing truck and underframe detail. There are two photos which show the actuator on the brake cylinders. You will notice they are bright and shiny stainless steel...

Since I ended up with a RS-36 with dynamics by mistake, I was planning on doing a D&H unit, and this one looks great.
What paint did you use? and what decals?
Are there any decals for the experimental scheme they used on the RS-36?

Are there any decals for the experimental scheme they used on the RS-36? Rick Accu-Cals by SMP Industries (long gone) made a multi-pack of decals for the D&H that contained the decals for 5015 in the experimental scheme. Probably even eaier to find is 5015 in the experimental scheme that Atlas themselves produced a few years ago. Mark.

Rick, I used the following: Polly Scale - D&H Avon Blue F414194 Polly Scale - CNW Yellow F414191 Decal set - Microscale set #87-582 D&H Diesels 1978-1985 Secondary details - Microscale #87-48 Data for Diesels - Black and White 1940-1992 - this set has the Alco builders plates and the "fuel" sign for the filler.
For weathering, I thin out Polly Scale "Dirt". Once I've got the desired effect I then thin and add Polly Scale "Engine Black" for the soot.
Mark, thanks for the lead on the monster size "D&H" Not a big fan of that scheme, but nice to know someone made them just in case I get the bug...
