I sold my old GP38 to a guy at work, and last weekend I picked up a GP38 frame, both fuel tanks, fans and dynamic brake blister for $25 at the LHS. I've already modifyied the 3600 gallon fuel tank to 8 1/2' long per the prototype. I've ordered the frame sill, and body from Atlas. Here's what I got Fuel tank mods

If you need to have the frame milled to get the fuel tank to fit, let me know. I did a whole bunch of these for the guys on the SOUTHERNmodelers yahoo group when Bob Harpe did a clinic on building the Southern GP38 with the small tanks.

William, what is the time frame for your GP-38?? All of the Southern units were delivered with three chime horns, but as time passed, some were reequipped with five chime horns. Do you have a particular unit number yet?? Give us the number and I'll see if I have a photo of it for you.

William William, I do not have a photo of the 2815, but I would suspect it to still have the two Nathan P-124 three chime horns on it in this time period and your best bet for these type horns is the Cal-Scale 545 brass horns.

My Atlas frame sill came in today. I removed the cab subbase and Atlas MU stands. I've started on my high hood from Cannon also.

William i don't know what type of MU stands came with your model i haven't seen Atlas MU stands find photos of your loco or one close to it in its cab number series / to get the proper type of MU stands for my GP 38-2's I had to get them from Wrightrak models

Thanks, Terry. I looked and my unit had the same style MU stands. I've got a few of the Wrightrak MU stands coming. I had the chance to get some work done on my GP38 over the weekend. I got the Atlas long hood end cut out and the Cannon end on. I'm also reusing the Atlas fans.

looking good!!!!!!!are you go add see through steps? Thank's Terry and UPGuy. Terry, the Atlas frame sill has see through steps so I'm not going to risk ruining my other work by trying to remove the steps.

Through my experience, when most of the locomotive is black...ie (NW, SR, NS) most of the little details are hidden by the color.

I got my Cannon and Company cab and battery boxes put together and installed. I don't think I did too bad on the cab considering its my first attempt at building one.
