Hey everyone!
It's been a busy year for me, so this is the first project I've really started in a while.
I have two Kato Conrail SD80MACs (from their new release). I am going to turn these into NS 7206 and 7209. Before I get to decaling and weathering though, I have A LOT of details to fix below the walkways, as the molded Kato detailing leaves much to be desired.
Currently, I have added DW airfilters, drain valves, some piping on the airtanks, fuel tank gauges and filler necks, and some traction cables. I still need to add more traction cable work, sanding pipes, bell (which I have made a custom bracket from styrene), and pilot details(including 'fixing' the ditch light depth).
I also have a few questions: 1. What type of horn should these units have? eg; K5LA, etc? 2. What diameter radiator fans do these locos have? I'm guessing 48"? I'm curious because I woul dlike to replace them with see-thru grills.
Thanks for any help, answers, and looking!
Rick F.

Detail associates also make 52" Q-fans that would fit the bill. Don't have the part number to hand but could find out?

Are the fans even on the latest release of this solid cast parts?
speaking of Overland parts, has anyone tried ordering from the guy who bought that whole line? Last time I called him he said he had to sort out and number everything.

Thanks to everyone! I've been thinking long and hard about it, and I may just leave the original cast fans on these. Worse comes to worse, I'll change them out later. I just have too much time in the underframe and pilots - as it is - that I don't feel like messing with the fans right now. I'll probably change my mind again as soon as I hit 'Post'....
