This one started out as an Athearn S-12. Cab front has been modified, as well as the battery boxes, and front headlight. The rad screen on the roof was cut out and replaced with screening from an F-unt screen made to fit. Motor and trucks are still original, this was before they even dreamed about DCC. Somewhere have a 2nd unit, that the hood was narrowed to correct width and better work done to the cab face... still looking for it. Not sure if this loaded the photo though, still trying

Looks cool! I always wanted to build one of these Vancouver units, but in the 'better' action red...

That looks really sharp. I'd like to build at least one of these and several of the other Vancouver Island Baldwins in N scale.
Great work!

Nice work! I remember them well from working at Drake St. roundhouse. For what it's worth, 7065-7069 had single number boards, not sure about 7070, but the rest had duals like your model and the E&N 8000s. For anyone else doing these, the Walthers FM switchers have the correct roof profile if you cut off the overhang. You might be able to use a cab from a Trainmaster, I never got to check them though. Fairbanks Morse bought their frames and other stuff from Baldwin. Before Stewart/Bowser brought these out, I did one and filled the inside of the cab above the side windows with Bondo, then sanded to the correct curve without worry of breaking through. Chris, if you are doing the 8000s in N scale, a local modeller did some out of (Atlas?) VO-1000s, which apparently had the correct hood except for the bulging front. Nobody has gotten the short hoods of the commercial 8000s right yet, they were a few inches higher than the long hood. Of course they only look good in Tuscan red & Gray... Dan M.

lol, yeah have to agree, that unit I built back in the 80's before internet, with a paint diagram and not more than 2 photos of the whole series, so a lot of "must apply to each one" was used. The next one had the hood narrowed, and cab redone, and better pilots. Both however and passed quietly away onto ebay, to clear room for the next version, lol

Hey it's all we had!
I'm no snob, those blue boxes would survive a trip to the floor.
Kids getting into this hobby can get their skills on them before tackling something expensive and us old farts can just have fun with them.
I know of one BB GP7 that's often mistaken for a Genesis, just because of the modellers skill in detailing.
