Below is a 60' Clinchfield 60' Boxcar that was one of two that serviced a Kingsport, TN paper mill. This car was a little more involved than just paint and decals. The prototype was a Greenville Car with two 8' sliding doors. I checked the door sizes of my Atlas cars and found that the door was a good fit. So I ordered the Atlas doors along with the door tracks, carved off the plug doors from an old Robbins Rails/A-line 60' Greenville Boxcar and replaced with the Atlas components. I also changed the kits 41' wheelbase to the 46' of the prototype and added a walkover platform that I had in the scrap box. Painted the car with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Mark Vaughn's decals. Thanks for looking! Rick J

I got a whole pile of those con-cor cars, never thought to give a thought to mixing it up with slider doors!
Any idea who else had the Greenville 60' with sliders? CRR only had 2!

Sean,
By removing the rivits and cutting weld lines in the car you can replicate the 4 Thrall XAPd cars owned by the Reading, although the doors would have to be scratchbuilt Superior Panel Doors, the NKP also had cars with two sliders, I would have to check if they were Greenville's or Thralls and numbers on the cars.

Nice job. Did they come with roofwalks or was that your choice to model the car that way. Overall now Id like to own one. Andrew

The car was delivered in 1965 with a roofwalk, it may have been removed later but I modeled it in the as delivered condition.
Sean, the Reading also had 7 XAPc cars that were made by ACF with welded panels, a deeper side sill, but not the Atlas car with the indented panels. The PRR had a number of similar cars made by ACF and homebuilt with sliders. These would be in their X59 and X61 classes, the subclass determined the door type.
