Hey gang. It's been a while since I posted anything worthy so it's high time I did so. Here are 2 GP60M's I built from P2K's GP60. I'd built 2 of these several years ago and I wanted to build 2 more for the longest time. These 2 have been in the works for several months. I'd been working on them off and on since the beginning of the year but now, they are finally ready to go to work on my layout! The conversion is pretty straight forward, Cut the subbase and cab / nose off the GP60 and stick the RPP 60M Cab on! That, and the handbrake from the nose of the GP60 has to be recessed into the rear of the carbody on the engineers side - this step involves some slight milling to the weight so the shell will fit back on but it's only about a 5 min job with a flat file. After the detailing and painting / weathering are complete, I feel that the end result is good. They aren't 100% exact, but neither is the Athearn offering. And since I prefer smooth operational capabilities over prototype fidelity, the smoother P2K chassis is the way to go for me. Now, maybe I'll do a few B units! If a major mfg doesn't beat me to it! First impression: Primer: Paint and decals: Hanging out with roster mates: Playing in the yard together: I sure do miss 1995........

Sammy, Those really look good. I like the slight differences between the units. Many of the 60Bs have come to Spokane and seem to have found themselves in local service in BNSF colors.

Hi Sammy,
Really nice stuff! I like how they're weathered differently, but very similar. I can't wait to wreck, er, run these on one of your hotshots!
Regards, Mike

Thanks a bunch for the kind words, guys! Here's one more shot of them at work on my layout earlier tonight, pulling the 198 train. And for the record, I don't think Santa Fe Mikie has ever even put a wheel in the ballast on my layout.......

That is because Santa Fe Mike is always running the BN stuff at your house. Everybody knows he likes green better then red/silver. Hoover

Hey Glenn,
Sammy and I were talking today that you seemed to be hiding somewhere. If I remember correctly, you and Paul were the only ones on the Green Weenies and it was hard to tell what smelled worse. Your unit or the cattle pens..... ;D

I have been hiding in Montana for the annual vacation trip. I was trying to escape the heat here, but when we got up there it was almost as hot there. I am back now and going to start getting everything ready for the RPM meet herethe first weekend of November. I wonder if we will be able to see these new GP60M's here for the show.....

Thanks, John! The weathering was a little too heavy on a few of them, but that silver tends to show that soot pretty well.
Hoover! Ole buddy! I am glad to hear you were able to make it to big sky country again this year! And it's true that my BN units miss your tender touch at the throttle! Yes, I'm planning on making it to Benton in Nov. Maybe it'll be below 80 degrees by then!
