put me down for one! Will have a post when we decide to get them in production. Looking at a local company to do the CNC work that I have dealt with before and had great work from them. It is to much work to do each of them by hand and keep the tolerances. Have a CAD program to draw them up so it should be duck soup. Will keep you in the loop! Rob

If I could make one suggestion...........place a piece of aluminum in the vice jaws so that you do not damage the axle ends.

The axle ends are of no concern if you are using this tool for the inside bearing equipped Athearn or P2K wheelsets. If you are using this for the long dead and out of date outside bearing Athearn sideframes and wheelsets then I can perhaps see where your suggestion would be plausible. Do you have one of these and have you used it? Just wondering.

No.....I do not have one of the tools.........just from my experience using bench vices.......I know most of them have serrated jaws........and being a machinist and welder I know what kind of damage to fine surfaces and finishes that bench vices can cause.

You might also want to make sure you dont turn the vise to hard and push the axles in a tad further as if the ends oe each wheel axle touch together inside the plastic gear part you will get a short.

You might also want to make sure you dont turn the vise to hard and push the axles in a tad further as if the ends oe each wheel axle touch together inside the plastic gear part you will get a short. If you have this happen then the axle shafts are to long. You can't put to much pressure on the vice and have this happen. This tool was designed to prevent this from happening. It spaces the bearings equal distance so that the wheel does not pinch them and prevents the axle shaft from touching in the gear and shorting. I had some issues awhile back with replacement nickel silver wheels for Atlas/Kato units that had to long a shaft and they would short out. I made up a jig that would move the wheel on the axle and shorten the distance between the axle ends in the gear. If you have an issue with the tool then contact me and I'll refund your money, provided you send back the tool.
