I am starting to build an SP TEBU unit. Someone else has made a model and started with an Atlas U23B. The TEBU units were built out of U25B's.
Is the length of the U23B the same length as the U25B?

The 4 foot difference does not look good to me. I think I will stay with the U25B.

I purchased two walkways from Atlas for the U23B. They are the same length as the Stewart U25B walkway that I have. I may switch and use an Atlas U23B Loco as the basis. I just need to find one on ebay.

B23-7 is the same length also. Unfortunately, only partially. Not all B23-7's were the same length.

not sure if this helps or not, but I can comfirm that an Atlas U-23b chassis fits the Stewart U-25b shell with only minor trimming to the Stewart shell, mostly to remove the coupler pocket casting inside the Stewart pilot, and some of the interior frame stiffener material on the U25 shedll that would otherwise interfere with the Atlas chassis weight casting in the battery box area.

Then I found this: www.hosam.com/model/ge.htmlGood indication as to why EMD was favored! Heck, now GE swapped nose doors on the new ES44's, saying it had something to do with fleet standardization, but wouldn't swapping the location make them nonstandard now?

Stewart U25B drives and parts are readily available if needed. Pretty low in cost if too. I have a frame and probably a walkway if you need them.

EMD stands for Every Model Different. ;D It has other meanings too. But I wont post them.

Please check the differences between the fuel tanks on the U25s and U23s. I remember seeing both models on Conrail next to each other and noted that there were differences between the two.

One more thing not talked about much. Stewart never fixed the wheel base on there U-25. First units were Athearn Trucks and when they went to the KATO style were told make like this ?? well the Japs did and it is short. I use the P2K FA-1 truck or the newer Athearn RS-3 may work also. makes a big differance when looking at a unit.(fills the void ) a bit more. Jim Evans

Fuel Tank's
U-25s have a large Vertical section and small taper in near the bottom U-28 and up are opposite of the U-25 Small Vertical and larger taper in to the bottom Got a real good deal on a U-28 with Sound & DCC was going to use the Chassee on the 25 body But Fuel tank issues stoped that.

Once GE changed from Universal locos to the B- and C-, things started going wonky for dimensions. I researched a long time ago building B30-7's for Southern and it took a lot of checking to figure it out. the HOSAM website is a good place to start when building a GE.
