Can anyone help me detail the underframe of an F40PH!? I cannot find a decent picture. I'm modeling SCAX (Metrolink) #800, using a Walthers Trainline unit, and the frame is so bare... I'm going to replace the fans with Cannon fans, the exhaust & the inertial filter hatch. Also, could anyone tell me what horn Metrolink has on it? Looks like a 5 chime, but I cannot tell.

The horn might be a little out of sight since its been relocated towards the rear from its original spot in the notch above the windshield but its definately a K5LA. Metrolink 800 was part of the last of three distinct "phases" of Amtrak F40s built so keep in mind it has the later "Q" type cooling fans which Cannon currently does not offer.

I can get you some pics of the ski train underframe, if those would work.

Yeah, that would be awesome Andrew! As long as I have something that an F40PH had... The frame is very bare, though it DOES make for easy detailing!
Mike, thanks for the horn info. I can hack Q fans from a spare F59PHI, or some use OMI Q fans, so no worries there.

The bell is placed right behind the pilot on the engineer's side. Also, while 800 retains it's K5LA, it has been cut out, in favor of an under-mount, Nathan P2. Not sure where exactly it is placed (probably right behind the pilot). The P2 can be fashioned from a D-A P5 kit or one of Cal-Scale's horns. The K5LA as mentioned before, is placed right behind the exhaust silencer.
Check rrpicturearchives or locophotos.
Btw, I'm in the process of detailing an Metrolink F59PHi.

That's the problem, all the photos of #800 are either too far away, blurry, or not a detail viewable angle. So you're telling me the K5LA is retained, but not used?

Impressive photos, thanks! I'll get to detailing this unit here after I complete these BQ23-7's.
