Hello all. I'm embarking on turning an athearn BB GP50 into a NS GP38-3. I'm just taking the short nose apart at the moment to add the cannon 88" nose. What should be done to alter the anticlimber I've seen reference to a details west version but I think that they don't do that anymore? All the -3s seem to have been ph1 50s. Any advice on what to do?
Regards Dave

Follow the photos of the prototype you are working on and then check Cannon & Company. Dave has a selections of anti-climbers that look great.

If the GP50 body is from the original tooling (NOT the "Phase II", the anticlimber should be fine as-is.
If you want to use a Cannon part, I would check out the Cannon 2105 anticlimber.

Cool! Another modern downgrade/build! Anyway looking at the pics from the url below, the anticlimber is the correct shape. However, keep in mind it's a solid 3/16" thick piece of plastic. If you want to add the Cannon part it and add the mu recepticles underneath and the ditch lights on the deck, the Cannon part has brackets for that that are included and is not so thick. Basically that will help you because you can run the wires to the ditch lights under the deck, noone will see them and it'll still look great, especially in black! Can't wait to see this one progress! www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelthumbs.aspx?id=NS&mid=183

Thanks Diesel. I'm looking forward to getting started. I've got the stripped GP50 ready to go, but just waiting for detailing parts to arrive. Sadly I can get the parts cheaper from the US including shipping and customs fees that just buying them from UK sellers. Just have to wait a while for things to arrive.
I had a look at the BB GP50 again earlier and thought the same thing, thats a big chunk of plastic, so I'll get the Cannon anticlimber as it will be much easier to add the details it needs.
I'm hoping that railflyer will get their Q fans out for sale soon, looks hopeful but I don't have too long so may end up DA ones instead.

mmm... you could also look on ebay for brass Qfans, but even those will only be marginally better than the DA fans. I have a set. I can't wait for the Railflyer fans either!

There quite a lot of useful railflyer parts that I'd like which aren't ready.
The gp38-3 seems to have a distinctive plow which I haven't seen as a detailing part but should be able to adapt a DW plow to look the part.

The GP38-3 has am 81" hood since it was a chopped high hood.

Hi William I'm 99% certain that they replaced the entire cab and nose for an 88" short hood.
