Hi Guys!
Wondering if anyone has put together a Kaslo 55 bulkhead flat car? If so, I am having a hard time understanding where to start? I have the list and a isometric view and thats it! I can figure out most of where everything goes, but it would be sure nice to hear other opinions on where to start. Much appreciated
Pete

I have one already built... I can probably take photos for ya if it helps... but I built it so long ago - I don't remember the steps.

I've got some Rzasa(?) cast metal bulkhead ends that would help with the weight of your flat if you're interested. I too acquired a very cheap Kaslo B/H kit but have been confused to start it, but I will build it even though Walther's did the car...

It's funny how the RTRs always come out after you build a kit. Many years ago I scratchbuilt one for a friend for his birthday (we're talking over 10 years ago), and then Kaslo of course came out with the resin kit. So I bought a couple of those and started work on them (just about completed one). Then Walthers and TLT come out with RTR cars that were very nicely done. Now I dread starting something for fear I'll see a nice resin kit, or an RTR version come out. LOL. Just can't seem to win. *sigh*

I realize this thread is a few months old, but it's worth noting that the Kaslo kit is actually subtly different from both the Walthers and TrueLine trains models. The Walthers car represents a car built by Hawker-Siddeley. The TrueLine Trains car looks like a Marine Industries prototype (unfortunately they screwed up the numbers on all the cars, they're all for cars that would have properly matched the Walthers car) (Primary spotting feature/difference of the above two cars is the jacking pads on the side of the car above the truck bolsters.) The Kaslo kit represents a car built by RailsWest Manufacturing (British Columbia Railway Squamish shops) - a BCOL-only prototype. The signature feature of this car is the the deck boards rest on TOP of the side sills instead of being flush between them. They also have smaller jacking pads at the truck bolsters. Take a good look down the side of these cars and note how the deck is higher than the sides of the car: canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=bcol17968&o=bcolcanadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=bcol19007&o=bcolThis CN car matched the Walthers model, note the heavier jacking jads by the trucks, and that the floor boards are flush with the tops of the car sides and therefore not visible. canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cn603145&o=cn

Thanks for pointing that out, I have a Kaslo kit with the heavy cast metal Rzasa ends so I guess I HAVE to make a BCOL one...
