My next build NREX 8748. This is a leased unit that the FWWR is currently using, I like the unique ones. From what Ive found out this is a GP9 rebuilt into a GP11. Here is picture of the prototype: After trying this unit before and it not going so well I'm going to try again. Went to the OKC train show this past weekend and found this donor for cheap: Next step is to disassemble and strip.

While trying to strip this unit last night was going through my detail photos and found this one: I'm assuming this is a Oil Retention tank. On the Proto 2000 chassis that i have there is not room for this. Does anybody know if the truck spacing changed or is the fuel tank shorter? The Proto 2000 trucks look to me to be in the correct location.

By comparing the photos, it looks like there is enough room to add the tank. The model photo appears to show enough open air to mount a small tank. The fuel tank size looks to be the same and there is no way that a rebuilder would alter the truck spacing just for a little tank!

The think is: on real prototype it may have 3" between the truck and the retention tanks, 3" allow an off spacing for the truck movement but in HO, 3" is not very much.

It should work. I done it on some of my model and run well. Éric

Hey Wayne, like the others said above it should fit. But, keep in mind many of the dimensions on P2K units are a bit screwy. The long hood is off in length and we found out from a member here that somehow the cab height is wrong as he was surprised by inaccuracies during his project. So, if it does look too tight, maybe just make the tank a bit slimmer if you need to. I don't think shortening the fuel tank would be enjoyable!

And construction has started . Dissembled unit, stripped and surgery has started. Proto 2000 walkway before surgery: Removed, Cab base, battery box's, coupler pocket. Still need to remove steps, here is where I'm currently at: Then the detailing begins. Rebuild pilots and add scale coupler pockets, add front anti-climber, plow, MU and air hoses, uncoupling bar, steps, plumbing fuel tank details, etc.

Alright guys, looking to add Sargent's couplers to this build, on order. Trying to build up the pilot and trying to figure out where the DW Coupler Buffer Plate should be? Instructions have no info on dimensions HELP. Would like to get walkway completed but this is slowing me down.

hey Wayne, I use the frame to line up where pocket should be, if I like the coupler height. Put the walkway on the frame and note where it lines up including whatever coupler box you will be using. The DW coupler plate may not be the best match. It may not be all that far off either... lol I just looked up this pic; www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1062926I made coupler pockets for a couple of U23Bs a while ago. It's not hard, but it can be time consuming on the first one.
