Hi all, Being from the UK, I've built my knowledge of locos up quite well over the last few years but have no idea about some of the freight cars. I'm looking at recreating this UP covered hopper: octrainguy.rrpicturearchives.net/rspicture.aspx?id=356043What I'd like to know is can I make this from the Accurail 3 bay hopper kit, as I have one to hand, are they the same class? Is there any heavy modding that needs doing other than adding finer details and decals etc? Any help would be great Thanks Dave

By the looks of it, the Accurail model is pretty close. The Atlas, Intermountain, and Front Range cars are too short. The one thing you will have to change depending on how accurate you would like it is the Accurail car has a car length trough hatch while the UP car has 3 separate hatches. Add 36" wheelsets and you should be all set. Adding full brake gear and other details per your modeling taste should also be relatively simple.

Thanks Shane, I did think they looked quite a good match, just need to find some in the UK if I can. I think I can easily find some replacement hatches for it. Plus Accurail has made a version with the large logo UP.
