Hello all, I need a powered frame with AAR trucks for my M420 build. The kit description calls for a "powered Atlas U23B frame with AAR trucks." I have read on other forums that the Atlas C420 frame is identical to that of the U23B and since its an Alco, it definatly has AAR trucks. Can anyone confirm this??

The C420 has a wheelbase of 34'-5" and the U23B has a wheelbase of 45'-6". The M-420 / M420R/ M420B have wheelbases of 47'-05" / 45'-09" / 45'-09" respectively. The Atlas U23B should be the obvious choice for an accurate wheelbase - especially important with the larger fuel tank.
Mark.

Mark, It can't be a diference of 10 feet between the C420 and the U23b wheel base. An SD40-2 have 43,6 feet wheel base

That's what I get for trusting the internet ! It appears as though they were typing 4's when they should have been typing 3's ! .... www.thedieselshop.us/DataM420.HTMLwww.thedieselshop.us/DataC420.HTMLwww.rr-fallenflags.org/manual/u33-gen.htmlIn honesty, after I posted that information it got me thinking - the three M420's and the M420B I built (on my site) utilized the Atlas C420 chassis (at the customer's request). They ARE shorter as the long tank wouldn't fit, but with the short tanks, the shorter wheelbase wasn't quite as noticeable. I did have to use long shank kadee couplers on the original chassis mounts, and even then, they barely extended far enough to be considered use-able. Mark.

Mark, when you're a chemistry major you quickly learn to compare information from several different sites. Who knew Napathalene had 3 different melting points!!
Now all I gotta do is find a cheap U23B with AAR trucks!
