First Generation GMD still running in the new millenium. CN 7043 is a CN rebuild. CN 7000's were rebuilt similar to 4000's but even with a chopped short hood, engineer's stand was left facing the long hood. Unit was built from a P2K GP 9 Ph III, some custom cast parts, commercial details and a kitbashed cab and nose. This unit is one of the later rebuilds with modified battery boxes.

What I have done for the front wall, is recycle some Athearn cabs that are kicking around from doing safety cab conversions. I use them because I have them and it gives me raised window gaskets. First, remove the numberboard from the front wal and fill all holes, being carful not to damage window gaskets. Then, I remove the front wall from the cab by cutting along the back of it. I then carefully spit it with a razor blade, between the two horizontal windows. The two half are then glued to the front of the P2K cab (with front wall removed) and a strip of styrenr is glued between the halves for the flat portion. Once everything has set up well, I file the front wall to the roof profile and then overlay the existing roof and new front wall with .010" styrene. Then add details to the front such as number boards, class lts and the P2K door is glued over the Athearn to make the overlapping door.

Actually, I have two more planned, plus a slug. These will be early re-builds, no battery box mods. I have slides of these two in progress, plus a slug and mother I did for someone else at the same time. I did these for a clinic at the Toronto NMRA show (200?). I could try scanning the slides and do an on-line clinic, but the slide sacnner I have tends to make things pretty dark.

outstanding! I'm SO ready to hack up a bunch of engines and do this--thanks to your tip regarding cutting a spare cab (who *doesn't* have a few sitting around in the junk box?) what did you use for the carbody filters in the ex-dynamic brake grid area?

Carbody filters are decals that used to be available from Tiger Valley. Down East Decals now makes these.
