Here is another model built by another friend of mine, Ryan Mason. These were actual units owned by the Central Kansas Railway and are sporting the last paint job they received before being sold to WATCO. The units still remain with Omintrax, however the CKR is no longer. The Central Kansas Railway was a 900 mile shortline railroad which purchased their track from the Santa Fe in 1992, and officially began operations on January 1st, 1993. Ryan and I plan on modeling some of the first engines they aquired which were all ex-Santa Fe GP7u's. Ryan made the decals for these himself. When CKR actually began painting their equipment, they chose a solid red scheme with white stripes and lettering, and black underframes. This model began life as a Proto 2000 GP9 and has been upgraded with Cannon and Company, Smokey Valley, Details Associates, and Details West parts. The low nose and cab were from a company called CMP Shops, however these conversions are no longer available. They were ok kits, but Ryan took care of the blemishes in the resin. This loco also sports DCC and sound with working lights. The prototype locomotive was an ex-Hudson Bay unit. Perry
