Hello everyone!
Here's my first rescue project since........ever? These units were in pieces and painted in a fictious road. I stripped them, ordered new parts from Athearn, and have begun the recovery process. They won't be flawless NIB factory jobs, but I think they'll pass the 3' rule.

Glad to see they are wearing the correct ATSF Warbonnet scheme once again!

Thanks Sammy. The road numbers are going to be 97 and 98. I was going to number them in the 100 series, but then I remembered that I have some GP60Ms and Bs, so those numbers were out. I'm still not sure if I want to add a replacement 'yellow' A/C unit on one yet, but that can be done after the fact anyway.
I enjoyed adding all the rooftop details like conduit, Sinclair platforms, old beacon platform(on 97), etc.
Stay tuned and thanks again,
Rick

It seems like they would have been natural extensions to the Super Fleet roster... don't honestly understand why Santa Fe didn't do them. You have some beautiful units... you have reason to be proud!!!

These were the first units in the Super Fleet. You must be thinking of the F45s. Don't know why the F45s weren't done, they would have looked just as good.

Yes, I was thinking of the F45s... and the SDP40Fs...
The reemergence of the FP45s was largely symbolic... they were the few remaining units that had originally wore the War-Bonnet scheme and were a great way for Santa Fe to unveil their new service. Would have loved it if more modern covered wagons would have been done (I use the term loosely... not sure that would be a proper application for the term) but ATSF already had modern diesels in mind, the SDFP45s were just the jump-start of what became an iconic service.
Now if BNSF would buy a few back and paint them up in the new scheme and use them on their business train... now that would truly be a thing of beauty.

Howdy all. I remember reading somewhere that the GP60M/60B's were originally planned as having cowl bodies. Eventually it was decided/realized they would be too heavy. Oh well, such is life.

Glad to see they are wearing the correct ATSF Warbonnet scheme once again! Why wouldn't the original 100 series Warbonnet scheme also be correct? Heck even the freight Warbonnet wouldn't be bad either.

Well, I've finally finished 'the girls'. These were a rescue project for my self, and while the paint isn't flawless it sure passes the 3' rule. I've added tsunami decoders is both units w/ 1" speakers and they sound good.
I'll update soon with some pix of them earning revenue soon.

Here is a quick shot of #98 exiting the yard on the University Park & Eastern (Penn State's Model RR free-lanced layout). The UP&E connects with the CSX and NS, and you will note an ex-NW SD40-2 in UP&E colors and two CSX AC4400s in the background. The eras clash, but that's why model railroading is FUN! You should see the roundhouse.
I'll try and get some better pix soon.
Thanks for the kind words by all,
Rick
