Hello all, new here. Here's a project I finished about a year ago. This is one of New Jersey Transit's four SW1500's that have been recently sold to LTEX. NJT 500 is ex PLE 1570. I started out with a BB SW1500, painted/decaled, added hood mounted handrails, fuel filler, wipers, grabs, extra sandbox, and MV lenses to name a few. I also added the little "Compromise Coupler" hanging on to the rear plow. (the yellow blob below the cut bar) The pictures are a little bright. *Forgot to mention that the truck frames are from Detail Associates.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Wheeler1963- The sandbox is an Atlas MP15 part which fit on perfectly. The handrail was DA brass wire bent into place. The cool part about Atlas is that many of their parts can be ordered, and are great add-on parts that most detail companys don't sell.

Jerome- Let me do some looking around the parts boxes tomorrow, I might have an extra one. If not the part number is 990227 "Rear Sand Hatch Square". The filler cap is # 990226 "Sand Fill". Hope this helps.

Awesome, I might have to order me a set of those side frames for a 2nd SW1000 (unless I buy one from the new run). I used the Smokey Valley ones on my first SW1000.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Eventually whenever I get any spare time , I'd like to model NJT 503. 503 has the unique Flat-top low clearance roof. (Kinda reminds me of IC's SW14's) Check it out here: www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=84873All kinds of wacky detail, platform for antenna, spark arrestors/muffler, double rear pyle headlights, etc.

Very Nice....a commuter railroad unit!!! Not something you see built everyday. Great work on that unit. I have a pair planned to build someday myself.
Working for a commuter railroad, that kind of equipment is just what I like. Many a unit wound up spending it's last days working for a commuter road (who always look out for cheap power) to use in M of W service.

Does anyone know if those side frames are still available? Walthers does not show them, and the Smokey Valley ones out out of stock. I need a 2nd set for an SW1500 now.

I actually saw a similar unit when I visited New Jersey, so this brings back fond memories.
