Well, I was in contact with my lathe guy and he said he can mill my Atlas C40-8W frame to accept the Atlas B40-8 fuel tank and the front half of the RPP shell to get rolling on my C39-8

I did work on a Walthers Airslide Hopper - got the plano roof walk some time ago for almost free and now the hopper came along in one of the monthly walthers sales... I removed all molded on grab irons and the walkway, replaced them with wire grab irons and the plano walkway, repainted the roof like the prototype and added full break detail ... I know it is not an locomotive - LOL - but it was on the bench and I needed some change while i figure out which detail parts I need for my GP40-2's and where to get them from ... cheers!

Well, although I have many projects that should be on my table, it is empty right now I have been very busy prepareing my unit for deployment and school work. Things should slow down in a couple of weeks. I have been working on the RG&S' history after reading PIER's post.

My current project is salvaging a basket-case Proto 2000 FA-2 and detailing it as an Eriie-Lacawanna gray-maroon-yellow unit a it looking right before retirement. Engine came to me as a forlorn Ann Arbor unit, minus handrails, cooling fan screen, couplers, but at least mechanically sound. I have repainted, decaled and am now adding grab irons, MU, wire handrails, etc.

Made some progress on my Erie-Lackawanna FA-2 project (this might actually qualify for a Cheap Builds category). Started with a basket-case $12 FA-2 painted Ann Arbor. It was missing most detail parts except windows, wipers and airhorn. I made handrails from .015 phospher-bronze wire, grabs were from wire and also drop grabs from Detail Associates, Details West MU hoses, found a replacement rear diaphragm in my junk box, and temporarily have substituted a cooling fan screen (though it is not a perfect fit) from a donor P2K PA-1. Paint is Accupaint EL gray, Floquil WC maroon tinted with a little tuscan, Floquil Engine Balck. Decals are from an old Accucals set. Still needs a few things added and a mild weathering job

Well after taking the last couple months off I finally last night got out a project I started several months ago. I'm in the process of building L&N SD40s 1225 and 1258, the first and last SD40s ordered by the L&N. I started with a pair of Kato SD40s. So far I've milled the frame to get rid of the bevel. I'm still trying to decide if I want to keep the Kato fuel tank or replace it. Sideframes have been detailed as well. As far as the shell goes, I've removed the step wells and pilots to be replaced with Railflyer parts. I plan on rebuilding the long hood starting with an Atlas GP40 hood, scratchbuild the clean air room, and a Cannon front end. Should keep me busy for a few days.

Project X and Project W are still on the bench. Rubber bands are there until the glue dries on the new filter box.
