I've now finished my second C&NW GP30. I could post this under the EMD thread, but it definitely meets the cheap build requirement. I scrounged a junk C&NW unit off the 'bay for $27, and then unearthed a Kato GP35 (ironically, also in C&NW paint) for the chassis for $35. I found better photos of 817, but I couldn't have consecutively numbered units and went with 815. It met my requirement of being in the green cab scheme and wearing a snow plow unlike my model of 818. Proto photo: www.rr-fallenflags.org/cnw/cnw815ads.jpgI replaced the factory fans with Cannon because I didn't like the factory P2K--something I didn't do on my first unit. Large fans were on clearance at the LHS. Small one came out of the scrap box, minus the blades that were used in another project; I had to reuse the P2K blades. Here's a side-by-side...not sure if I will go back and redo the first one to match or not. I'm much happier with my truck and fuel tank weathering than on past units. Here's a nose-to-nose comparison. I could always add more details under the frame, but I have a layout to keep up with and I feel I get better results adding roof details and moving on.

If you found a Kato GP35 in CNW paint, you now have 1/2 of CNW's fleet of Phase Ia GP35's Nice work!

nice work, I know what you mean about the fans. I didn't install them on my first few projects, now I want to go back and redo that and other details on things I already painted.
BUT, where is this that Cannon fans were on clearance???

Thanks for the compliments, guys! I'm hoping to bust out at least one more unit before the fall--an SD45 this time. If you found a Kato GP35 in CNW paint, you now have 1/2 of CNW's fleet of Phase Ia GP35's Nice work! I have actually purchased 3 of #825 and only finally gotten a factory-lettered #824 with this last pair. BTW, forgot to mention that I adapted the Kato cab to fit inside the P2K shell. It's not realistic like Genesis or some other cabs I've seen, but it beats a gaping hole and I had it left over.
