Messed with some autoracks as of late. Used a bunch of the old Life-like Chevy Citations, and repainted them. I have a tri-level and am going to fill it with some of the old Athearn HO scale cars. IMO you don't really see the detail when they are in a train moving. Anyone else have loaded autoracks?

Very nice. I've got a bunch of open autoracks like that but I've stopped building them because I can't find any decent (and cheap) cars to fill them with that will pass for early 70's. I also realized too late for my first two racks, that I forgot to weather the decks before final assembly, so those definitely need loads now. I guess one of the other ones can be an empty.

I like, I wish I could find a cheap 1968 lot of cars, even mid year 1967, ultimately I may have to cast resin some from Mini Metals cars, because at $6-$11 each my five-seven auto racks will be like purchasing a car from my 1967 era.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's a shame Walmart doesn't have the Malibu International cars anymore. at $1 each I could have afforded decent cars.
Mike, I didn't do much weathering to mine, just a light fade for club running. But a kit would make it easier to weather the decks. Unfortunately mine are RTRs. Model Power Chargers, El caminos, and 442s would work, but they are $5 each. Still pricy for a loaded rack, but not crazy like Atlas or Clssic metal cars. MI had 197
Justin, Let me know how the casting thing works out if you go through with it. I wanted to try a load of 87 mustangs (the herpa/con-cor model) or atlas fairmonts, but it's cost prohibitive to buy them.

Even at $1 a car, your talking about $18 for a full load on a tri-level. The five cars I would like loads in would run about $100 just for the loads in autoracks that I got total for about $30 (kits). Though it does beat $5 each for cars.
Casting may be a good option, I might have to look into that.
