Being a newbie to model RR, I must confess that I have no idea what on earth a 'flanger" is, but I know enough to recognise darn good modelling when I see it, and that sir is darn good modelling!
It can't be an easy task to gert something like that all square and true.
Well done

Thanks for the kind words guys!! Todd, we worked with many pics, I found a couple of the side and with some measures, we did all proportional, no plans or drawings, all from pics and some apart notes we found in the net. Mike, a flanger is a car that have blades for take off the snow and ice from the track. There were many types of snow removal equipment, this is one of them.

That is a very nice piece of work! I especially like the windows, that must've taken some work to get those done right! One suggestion for you, since the wheels are so visible, have you considered using some semi-scale wheelsets?
Also, how did you make the blades?

Thanks for your suggestion Raeder, I have another one waiting for paint. I didn´t built the scratch work, was done by my friend Ernesto, here´s a closeup of the blade, was scratched in styrene, using some patterns. I´d like to replace the wheels in this one and in the next to come, which ones you suggest me? Thanks again

The rusty peeling paint on the blade looks amazing (wish I knew how to weather like that).

The rusty peeling paint on the blade looks amazing (wish I knew how to weather like that). Not sure if they've done it this way, but one way is to first paint the primer color, then on the parts you want to simulate the flaking, use tiny bits of grease or other stuff that doesn't let paint stick to too well, then spray over the black, one or two coats. Then carefully scrub clean, and the 'greasy bits' will have no paint on with some rougher edges, simulating peeled paint. That's one way of doing it, no doubt there's others. :-) Koos

Yeap koos, that´s the way I did. The large blade was almost finished when took the pic, the short was in process. You can also use the salt technique.

Good tip Koos, I'll have to try that sometime. Not sure I know what the salt technique is though.

Here is a link to a UK based modeler, Kathy Millatt, she does railroad models mostly, but also had a go at some military models. This link describes her painting/weathering a US staff car, using the salt technique. Excellent results again. www.kathymillatt.co.uk/US%20Staff%20Car.htmKoos
