Finally made some more progress on a project that actually started sometime around 2006-2007. A friend of mine and I were passing drawings back and forth, trying to get all the details right so we could both build models of these cabs. He modeled in O scale 2 rail, and I in HO. We spent about 6 months revising drawings, and we cam across the blueprints in an old Car Builders cyclopedia, which pretty much cleared up the questions we were having. He built 3 in O scale, and then switched to G scale and I got one of his O scale models (unfinished) as he sold off all his O scale to finance the bigger stuff. He built another in G scale, and it is a gorgeous model. I went a little different route, and sent my plans off to a laser cutter to get some kits made for the masses (other DT&I modelers) and well, the project fell on it's face, and couldn't get up. I struggled with the project, fearing I was gonna have to go find someone else to do the work, but the Laser cutter finally came thru, and sent me a sample, and then a alpha kit. I made some notes about some things that need changing, but it is going to be a pretty impressive kit Still need to build all the wire railings, finish the roof, and some other stuff like clear coat and decal. Basically, it is about a week long project to build one from start to finish. I am happy it is finally moving along, and hope to have the kits for these ready by August. Regards, Brian

Thanks! The frame4 is made from Athearn parts, but it has Atlas Trainman caboose trucks on it.

Three of these cabooses found their way to Virginia, where they were employed by the Atlantic & Danville as 109 - 111. Later replaced by ex-N&W cupola cabs they were on the line for a number of years despite the line's affiliation with the Southern Railway.
Now if you could find a way of converting the files so that an N-scale version could be built... B )

dtinut, I would love to grab one (or several) of those kits from you! I sent an email from my yahoo email account, not sure if you received it or not.
But if you have any left for sale, I would surely be interested in them.
Thanks, Patrick

If you don't mind me asking, where in the World are you guys finding the scale drawings for these cabooses? I have looked all over the place, and can't find anything. I would like to find scale 3 view drawings of all of DT&I's and AA's cabooses.
Any ideas where I might find these?
Thanks for any help and info, Patrick

Patrick,
Why are you looking for drawings? If you have the car builders cyclopedia, it was in that, but i dont recall the volume that contained it.

Hi Brian, OK, I will see if I can look it up. I've got the "DT&I Cabooses" book by Dwight Jones, and that's got some great info in it, unfortunately, no drawings. I'm an old giant scale RC airplane builder, and I learned early on about using scale 3 view drawings when scratch building and detailing aircraft, and that has carried over into my model railroading as well. I'm wanting to build scale replicas of each of the DT&I cabooses and add them to my showcase, and scratch build some N scale versions for our home layout as well. I'm wanting the scale 3 views so I can make sure the ones I'm building for my showcase are as close to correct as I can get them. I've ordered one of your kits, and the "steel" version from WrightTRAK. I still need to find a scale replica of the Reading caboose that I can kit bash or find scale drawings and scratch build one. I think I can probably use the WrightTRAK Ann Arbor caboose and kit bash it into the DT&I version, but need to find scale drawings of that if possible as well. So anyway there you go, that's what I am trying to accomplish before the planet killing asteroid gets here in April of 2029 or 2036, whichever "they" decide, or is it now Sept. 2015? I'm getting old, so if I'm going to get these high detail models built, I need to get them done soon, as I am losing my eyesight. I will research the car builders cyclopedia's and see if I can find the ones that have the drawings I need. Thanks, Patrick
