Two questions I wonder if you might answer for me: How/where did you acquire the m4d parts? Directly? My usual shops don't carry his stuff... Also, if you don't mind, what's your solution for sand-filler hatches? I realize that's both non-sequitor and potentially invasive so forgive my asking. Hi Andy, the M4D shells I buy here in NZ direct from Mark4Designsand filler hatches are available from Miniatures by Eric and from Atlas. (what I have also done in the past is cutting them off Atlas shells or used small pin heads)

that looks a bit more like the pilot on the EJ&E SD38-2s (the ditchlights will get a 0402 SMD LED each, ditchlights and anticlimber are made out of styrene profiles, coupler cut lever, air line and MU hoses are BLMA parts, debris kicker is a discontinued Sunrise Enterprise part and the drop step and connector are from a Kato SD40 walkway assembly)one pilot done, nine more to go...

thanks... Mike, I have to be insane, that is what my customer who ordered these expects from me... anyway, some years ago there was a company around, called Sunrise Enterprises ( www.sunrisenterprises.com/) and they produced several tiny N scale detail parts, unfortunately that company is no more and so are the speed recorder. I need several for The SD38-3 proJect and so I have had to find the right, tiny part to scratch build them and found the part on the sprue of a BLMA detail part... I cut them off, drilled a tiny hole in it, glued a tiny wire in it (drilled holes into the sideframes as well) and glued them to the truck sideframes. the wire gives a better bond as the delrin does not really like super glue. for the cable I am using magnet wire and after everything is bendt as per prototype, painted and weathered it should look close... #666 still rides on the original trucks with six brake zylinders, the Kato trucks only have four so I have had to put two more on per truck... the SD38-2 have the short fuel tank. after I shorten the original SD40-2 tanks I have had to replace the pipe (wire) and the diesel filler tube (part of a BLMA air line detail part), I also built the SD38-2 typical round sight glass... five fuel tanks and 10 trucks are ready 4 painting now...

I was already on the way to the paint shop when I doublechecked the fuel tanks and found an item I did obviously forget - the air dryer... I knew these little screws supplied by MicroTrains with the couplers would come in handy one day... but now I am ready4painting...
