Guys, here is my Clinchfield 802 which is very near completion. I chose to weather the model before adding the handrails and windows as the windows will receive special attention after they are in place. This model will be the subject of my clinic at the upcoming Savannah RPM meet being held on March 25th and 26th, 2011. If you would like info on this meet, please contact me at rharpe@comcast.net and I'll give you the information. Bob

The Highliner kit is, in my humble opinion, the finest F-unit model in today's market as there are so many versions of F-units that you can build from it. Notice that the CRR units had louver modifications on both sides of the unit and the Highliner kit is the only F-unit model on the market that can be altered to depict this modification. Bob

As far as the finish is concerned, here is the prototype finish that I am trying to copy with my model. I want a dead flat finish as the one in the photo, but even with Dullcoat, there is still a "sheen" to the model. I may try Scalecoat Flat and see if it makes any difference.

I have one Highliner A kit, but I have also used the side panels on a Proto 1000 F3, excellent options in the kit. As far as dead flats, I have been able to airbrush cheapo Wally world craft paint, cut with 70% alcohol (mixed to a consistency of Whole milk), but I have not done so with any clears, but I am going to try once I locate the clear that I feel will work best work. Of course with using an airbrush, I can always add more Talc to dull it out, but I am still experimenting.
