Dave, No special treatment are needed for using automotive paint, just apply a primer (for plastic car parts) coat before painting! The paint should be applied on thin layers. The color will be solid on the third or forth layer, be patient to not ruin your model. kai, Thanks for your comment. new photos of the current project:

Daniel, you have done a SUPERB job on your model!
Are you considering replacing the two long side plastic handrails with wire ones, and if you do, will you use the Smokey Valley stanchions or drill through and use the Kato ones?
To see what that modification could look like, check the Atlas HO scale board - there's a recent thread from "mako-railfan" (currently on page 3) who did a Kato-9 ATSF unit which he weathered and appears to have replaced the long handrails with wire ones. The wire looks nice and straight over the walkway areas right behind the cab on both sides. As a practical matter, I doubt that the plastic long side handrails can ever be fitted on to look as straight, or to stay that way for long, considering that room temperature eventually changes from day to day and will cause the plastic to expand or contract.
Thanks for sharing your photos with us!

New pics.. Peter, I do consider replacing lateral handrails, as you can see, it is already bended. It's only a preview, final pictures will be posted soon.

Daniel-
Very nice work. Impressed. What did you use to fill the gap between the DW airtanks bracket and the fuel tank?
