As the story goes: with the Midland Belt leasing locomotives to the SSW in the late 70's a new logo was created during this short term lease. It has remained on the front of most MB locomotives ordered from there on into the 80's. It took some time to modify the Cotton Belt logo and make some of the letters. I'm still want to make some slight changes like angling the "L" in the Midland word. What do you guys think?

I like it! Angle the "L" in Midland like you said, and I think you'll be there. Funny you should be doing this, I literally had a similar thought involving the Genesee & Wyoming's logo and my own railroad, the Arizona and Colorado. My idea was the reverse of yours: The A&C would be leasing (or buying former) G&W locos, with said equipment placed into service without a full repaint. Slight changes to the G&W loco would be deemed appropriate until a full repaint could happen.

Glenn, I see what you're saying. Is your freelance based in present time? The G&W logo shouldnt be too hard to modify. I like your A&C name too!

I agree, the herald looks good, it'll look perfect with the angled "L" in Midland.

Glenn, I see what you're saying. Is your freelance based in present time? The G&W logo shouldnt be too hard to modify. I like your A&C name too! It's based... You know those guys who can't be pinned down? Now you know one more. ;D I like the mid-to-late 80's through mid-90's, so that's what I would like to model. However, I have also been trying to figure out some past paint schemes to give myself a bit of history, i.e. "What version of the factory-EMD striping would they have chosen, and in what colors?" My original idea was "Colorado and Arizona", then I found out there was a railroad named "Arizona & Colorado" incorporated (and portions surveyed) by the SP. This railroad would have tapped into southern Colorado, and run to the Globe, AZ area. This was the reason the D&RGW line from Durango, CO to Farmington, NM was originally built as standard gauge (to meet the perceived threat from the A&C). Later, when the SP (A&C) never built the line, the D&RGW converted this portion to narrow gauge. Since this provided historical context for my railroad, almost made-to-order history, and included some of my favorite places for scenery, the name change was made. Sorry if I hijacked your thread...

What a neat looking logo! What color are the units wearing this painted?
