Traction motor caught fire (usually the rubber on the cables where they attach to the traction motor itself catch on fire due to excessive heat),I had a SD60M in my consist last month that did the same thing. We went over 4 detectors and nothing sounded off of a defect and the diesel shop guys noticed the smoke as we pulled into the fuel racks...
No fire dept needed, just a fire extingisher off the engine put the fire out,had to set it out before the train could continue on to Laredo..
Those SD60's just need a little tender loving care and a good rebuild and they will be just as good as new...Great catch though..

This makes the 3rd or 4th time that I can remember the fire dept being called to help NS, its usually broken couplers next my strecth of tracks lol. I find it ironic that right after I took this picture theres been about 6 more of the SD60 lease units come thru. Ive been noticeing alot of lease power the last month or two coming thru, just wish I was able to get a heads up of when there coming thru lol. I get some help by having a crossover from double to single just up from the house, so they usually end of stopping for the signal if there heading north.
