So, I've been moving along pretty good with current projects. This lead me to think about what's gonna be in the next bunch that I do, since that seems to be the way I'm working lately. The GP50 will be more of a front row project, right now I just do maybe one thing to it in-between other stuff. But once I finish what's on the bench I have a couple other SD40-2s (Athearn BBs), 5 -9s; 2 Kato and 3 BB, an SD70M (CSX) and an SD75M, but I'm only adding the detail kits & maybe a few other things. All but the 40s are in factory paint. I think I'll strip the CSX unit and repaint it just for the heck of it, still CSX and one of the BB-9s will be stripped and repainted in either H2 of 3. There is also the TEBC & the SD38P (not sure on SD 35 or 38 starting point) and a couple slugs. I did start work on the BB -9s a while ago, one is actually almost done. I added traction cables & the piping bracket, smokey valley stanchions... I'm only doing work on one of the cabs, the repaint, will be a 4 window change. I know there's changes to make to the gull wing look, but the cab is so off anyway I'm not gonna bother. I might even redo some of the stuff I did before, some of it looks a bit clunky... That actually looks like 2-3 years of work unless I get faster! -maybe more!

I've grown to love those DA radiator grills. They're not as tough as some people think either, but the effect is VERY noticeable.
Keep us posted,
Rick

Those DA grills look nice, I have thought about doing that on some of my units, but I would want an actual fan under them after seeing what they look like now, so maybe I'll hold off on that for a while longer.
As to the SD38P, you'll want to start with an SD35, as the prototypes started that way. Your GP50 project is your "background" project, and the TEBUC6/SD38P combo is my background project, so I can recommend starting with the Atlas SD35 when you get moving on that project. I have a thread on these units over in the EMD Switchers area. PM me with questions and I'll answer as best I can.

thanks guys... Jay that 32 you did was really cool lookin! I have DA grilles for my B32-8 as well.
Kevin, when you see this going by on the rails the light isn't as glarring as here in my pic. You can see the top grill much more and the grille underneath is a secondary thing. If your layout is almost eye level, which ours is in most areas, you only see the grilles without really seeing through them. But I guess fans would be cool as well, wonder what that would look like!

Thinking about it, I'll bet you would be fine if you had a fan shaped cardboard cutout under the fans. As long as it was dark, you'd have the effect without having to chase down a fan that big.

I've used those grills before, they have a great impact on the appearance of the model. Once the shell is mounted to the chassis though, how much of a fan cutout would you be able to see? I don't think I can really see much of the inner grill on the ones I've done.
