I recently acquired an undecorated PROTO 2K RS-27 w/ DCC & Sound. I know the D&H never owned this particular loco, but in my opinion they should have, and will in my little world. I will be painting her up in the Lightning Stripe scheme, but I'm considering what other details to add to D&H her...thinking horns (Nathan 3 chime of some sort?), antenna (Sinclair?), lights, etc. What would the D&Hers on board speculate an RS-27 would sport? I'm thinking the RS-36 set-up might be a good place to start.
What would you suggest?
Thanks

You may want to consider a freelanced railroad that uses the D&H scheme. You could make up a whole saga of how your railroad was related or maybe an executive of the former D&H works for your railroad now. I have a similar story with my River Run Road.

The C-424 was the direct successor to the RS-27 in the Alco product line, and D&H acquired plenty of those. Some of the C-424s they acquired were originally Erie Lackawanna locos, so you might want to look at what those had fitted and go off that, as they might simply leave them as they came. That will probably give you your most likely 'what if' specifications given that a railroad would likely choose broadly similar fittings for operational reasons, i.e. the same kind of antennas, horns, lights etc for locos in similar roles, since these would be choices that maintained part commonality in the fleet and best suit operational requirements too.

I would look at all of the alcos that the D&H had. Like Al said, I would think that if they had the RS-27 it would be outfitted with similar options like the C-424 and the RS-36 as well as the c-628.

I would tend to lean towards the RS-36 because I like the look of it almost as much as the RS-27 & RS-3's. Does anyone know what horn is appropriate for the D&H RS-36? Nathan M3? it looks like the C424's had 5 chime horns of some description.

For the horn you could use a Nathan M-3 (Details West #AH-186), although most RS36s sported Nathan M-3RT1s (Cal Scale #552) salvaged from the RS2s and 3s.
Use a long Sinclair antenna (Details West #RA-274 or Cal Scale #547). The 36s also had a frame mount bell (Details West #BE-127 or Scale Scale #430, just to the rear of the engineers side steps.

Thanks guys. I figured the Nathan/Sinclair combo was pretty much it. I wasn't aware of the bell. I'll have to dig up a picture and work it in as well. I haven't dug into the detail parts (whole bunch of goodies!) that were included with the model, there may be some usable stuff (I saw all weather windows) in there.
Speaking of the Nathan horn, does anyone know how to change the horn with the QSI decoder? I've been searching the net and I'm getting the impression that I might have to purchase an upgrade chip and have it programmed to the Nathan horn...it seems kind of bizarre, but I can't find any instructions on simply changing a CV...I guess I could live with looking at Nathan and hearing Leslie for $30...
