This is that caboose that was retired and sold long ago and now it just sits there on an old abandon siding. This car started out as a factory painted Centralia Caboose. I painted the lines through the numbers, gave the car a white wash to fade the paint. Oil paints were used to do the rust streaks. To do the boards on the windows I took some .010 styrene sheet and gave it a grain with sand paper. I took and rubbed in some black oil paint in to the grain. I then cut out appropriate size pieces to board up the windows and glued them in place. Then it was dull coated to seal everything. After that I decided the boards were not quit dark enough so I rubbed in a little more black paint into them. Also I have to thank Sammy for his excellent photography skills and the use of his layout.

With any luck a short line or tourist road will pick it up before the scrappers get to it. Nice Job on the Caboose Eric! Looks pretty dang realistic to me.. ;D I've always thought they would make a great poor mans business car.. but you'd always have to park it on the wrong side of town.. "across the tracks" so to speak..I agree with Stepehn, I hope somebody does something productive with it before it just rusts away. Excellent job, Paul

Thank you for the compliments everyone.
There has been some interest from a few shortlines but when they found out about all of the FRA glazing being shot out, friction bearing truck and that the tracks were no longer connected to the main they seemed to have lost interest very quickly.

Eric, that caboose is nicely done. The fade job and weathering really add to the overall look. Good job.

This is by far my favorite of all the cabooses out there, if I could find a real one for sale I would buy it. I like how real the plywood looks covering the windows, nice job!

I have to agree with the others, I like the look of the wood on the car, that looks good. You might try toning the white handrails and grabs down, though, as they appear to be still bright white, which contrasts with the rest of the run-down appearance of the caboose.
