I'm starting with an old Tyco GP20 shell and a section of a Front Range GP9 long hood for this one:

Prototype photo (albeit in "wrong" paint scheme) donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0107/eirr4541.jpgA recent Diesel Era article has plenty of pictures of these rebuilt late-phase GP9's in the "correct" paint schemes, but this was the only online photo I could find as an example.

I may change directions on this one and use an old AHM GP18 for the long hood and chopped short hood based on one of the CNW units that had a GP18 short hood salvaged from a reengined Baldwin

Yup, better to chop a short hood to model a chopped short hood. The stock low hooded GP-18, GP-20, SD-18 and SD-24 have a slopped hood like the Tyco GP-20. The units with chopped hoods had a flat topped nose, no slope. I found the AHM GP18 while digging around for a source for the chopped short hood, and figured I'd use as much this unit as possible if I was going to hack the short hood off. (On this note, I'm tempted to use the unpowered GP18 chassis as the basis for a slug at a later date) The one piece windshield will also need to be replaced with a two piece windshield, and I should have some Des Plaines Hobbies cab inserts somewhere...
So far, I've removed the long hood from the GP20 shell in order to get the GP18 long hood installed, pics to follow later.
