Here's another progress shot. ;D I took the tape off from around the headlight because the acryl paint I had didn't stick too well to the glossy orange paint. If I painted in enough layers to have it cover it was a mess, so a bottle of Floquil ATSF Silver is on the 'to get' list. -drat! So, all that's left now is the silver for the headlights and the window frames, the black decals for the window gaskets are almost done, the horn mount (which I kinda forgot for some reason) the AC units on the roof and the pilot details. I have a GP40M as well. This will go on the layout soon and the frame mods will be done hopefully in the next month or so. Then I'll swap the frames out and this will be a done job. I'm using Brian Banna's EJ&E GP38-2 job as a guide. He didn't cut the frame down in the GP40M job, I'm keeping both in mind though!

Looks great! Nice work on the paint and decals. This is going to turn out to be a killer model!
I'm still planning out the build on mine and had a couple more questions for you: -Looking through proto pics, I noticed this series has an electrical cabinet behind the left side (conductor's?) of the cab. Not sure if your shell came with that, but I know my RTR doesn't have it. Will you be adding it? -What parts do you plan on using for the A/C units? The only ones I know of are BLMA, but they aren't the same as what BNSF uses on their locos. I used them on another project and had to do some sanding and creative painting to get them to look somewhat similar. I'm not sure if I want to go to that trouble again...I may just slap them on and call it good.
Keep it up! -Kevin

thanks Kevin! yes, my shell came with an electrical cabinet. I guess it wasn't in any of my pics cause I'm leaving it off til last. Since you're starting with a GP35, you won't have that. Anyway, I have those same A/Cs. I didn't really look into seeing how much different they'd be. But, I'll just pop em on there unless it's not too much trouble to sand them down. I'll have a look at some closeup shots. -thanks for the heads up on that! If you've ever put together a Cannon electrical cabinet, you know how the small some of the parts are. I think I'd be able to finish one now, but so far I haven't been able to get those tiny feet on there and stay on. I use gel CA these days... If you want a less involved cabinet DW makes a metal one. Now I want to go back to the GP39e project and just do that cabinet! lol I went looking for a shot of 2037 just for the fun of it and I don't see one on the sites I frequent. Here's a shot of 2036 and I just noticed there's 3 site glasses on the fuel tank. archive.trainpix.com/BNSF/EMDRBLD/GP38-2/2036.HTM

Thanks for the tips on the electrical cabinet. I may go with the DW part for durability's sake, although I'm sure the Canon one is more detailed. I will also have to do a lot of mods to the dynamic brake section...I'm trying to decide if I should mod the existing section or see if I can get a GP38 section to fit. I haven't looked much into it. Thanks for the link...that's a very nice high resolution pic. I've been getting most of my pics from here: www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=63882. Not as high res, but lots of angles.

OK, there are still a few things to do to this + the underframe details. I didn't try the fridge door trick yet either. I dropped one of the ditch light fixtures and decided; that's enough for today. I also started cutting on that GP50 shell. -wrong sub base so that and the short hood are coming off as well as that dust bin,... what was I thinking?? Anyway, I wanted to take it to club tonight where I'll put the decoder jumper in the right place if if's not already. I'm trying to get the shell on now, but it's a tight fit.
