This looks darn good! I've got 2 GP-9s in the works for Nickel Plate.

Here is an update for those that were following my progress. Today I painted the shell black. I used Polly Scale Engine Black thinned with distilled water with a couple of drops of flow enhancer. I'll give it until at least tomorrow to dry and then I'll spray on some future. I'll post a picture once the decals are on. My point-and-shoot digital camera doesn't do well with solid black models. Cool I put Atlas SD24 cabs on all my Proto 2000 geeps. Ever try to take the winsheld out of the doors without breaking them good luck. Gonna get the two piece winshelds from Atlas for my GP16s and GP20s

Thanks for the kind words guys. My progress had slowed down to a crawl because of work. I had my yearly simulator evaluation last week so I'd been buried in the books. Now that it is done I can concentrate on more important matters. I've been working on the decals the last couple of days. The imitation aluminum stripes are on and the lettering on one side is done. Hopefully, I'll get the rest of the decals finished so I can post a shot later in the week.

Thanks guys. The flash made the imitation aluminum stripe look as white as the step edges. I assure you that they are not the same color. The finish looks rough but i think that is just because the pic is very grainy. It is much smoother in person. Charlie

Luv those GP18s! I still scoop up the CN 4346 ones when the price is right and convert them to GP9s with a quick grille swap, renumber and refan.
Looks awesome!

You got the boys at Stephens Railcar looking hard! All told, I love what you are doing!
Tell me where you get the handrail stanchions. I need a bunch. Also, where did you get the radiator grilles? were they still with the unit?
Beautiful job...

Lindsaya99,
Can you explain a little more about the modifcations to the fuel tank? I would like to know in particual, how long is it, in actual or scale? After looking at your posts, I realize that I need to go back and change/fix this on my models.
Thanks,

From the SOU modeler yahoo group, I found some work that said they were 7'6". Thats what I'm going with on my build.
I did not realize that was a hancock air whistle. What direction is it facing? Towards the rear?
Does anyone have a photo of their photo of their roof for detailing and placement purposes? How correct are these fans? How do you know they're the right ones? I'm looking to finish building CG 171, 172, or 174 in the late 1960s.
I'm also having trouble figuring out the modeling needed to complete the piping on the fuel tank and the air tanks, especially on CG 171.

Dave, refer to my build of the C&G SD28 in the EMD (1960s) Section to get some ideas of fuel tank piping.
